The Observation Tower

My Photo
I am a retired pathologist with a wife and two grown children. I love getting out and about with my camera. Sharing my photographs by blogging is way better than having them just sit in my computer (or as prints under the bed).

Central Roller Mill Revisited

My buddy and I have shot the Central Roller Mill in the past and yesterday we stopped there on the way to Clemson. We never got to Clemson.

Musgrove Mill Bonus

After wandering around Musgrove Mill trails we got back to the parking lot and found a line of antique cars, a bonus. Here are a few more landscapes and the cars.

Back to Great Outdoors-Musgrove Mill

Recently I have been shooting in my house and yesterday the weather was too good to stay indoors. We went to Musgrove Mill, a Revolutionary War Historic site near Clinton, SC. The fields, trees and Enoree River made for patterns, shadows, etc. Just what the photographer ordered.

Latest Listening Report, Morrison Audio Louspeakers

This is a tale of looking and listening. I previously reported on my Morrison Audio loudspeakers and commented on a bit of bass thinness.

I had been listening to my Morrison Audio Model 17 with the Reckhorn equalizer that came with it. I thought the sound was quite good but a bit bass shy. That is where Looking comes into play. I knew there was a switch on the back of each speaker but I never checked to see if they were in the correct position. And in fact they were out of position. They should both be in the down position to use the cross over. I had one up and one down. The Aha moment. I put them both in the down position and I had a totally new sound. The bass to treble balance was better than anything I had heard short of going to a concert. The bass is now full, clear and the instruments are properly spaced. Organ recordings have the same kind of attack and fullness that I hear in concert. The mid range and treble have always been excellent but are now properly balanced. Pianos have the proper mix of percussiveness and sweet sound. Voices and instruments appear in a full, 3-D presentation, just like the real thing. Everything from opera to rock and roll sounds like it should. My next step will be to get Morrison's active crossover when it is ready. It is interesting to note that one does not need to use the latest and fanciest gear to make these speakers sing.

When properly set, these speakers are the best I have ever heard (including some that are either stupid expensive or very power hungry).

Keep tuned and oh yes, check out the Morrison Audio website http://www.morrisonaudio.com/ for insight to the speaker design and Don Morrison's take on recorded music/audio in general.

In-House Vacation

Recently I have concentrated on seeing what is in my immediate environment, my home. There are all sorts of things to see at home which I would ordinarily not notice without a "little project". The home front is at least as interesting to me as are things I travel to see.
